70 Yrs Ago Today – May 20, 1942 in Auschwitz / Holocaust

“Every month like clockwork we are shaved and deloused.” This procedure happened on Sundays and would have been the 3rd time that Rena and her sister were shaved and deloused.  Elsewhere in camp, despite it being a “day of rest” Danuta Czech reports in The Auschwtiz Chronical that “A female prisoner sent from Oppeln receives No. 7456.

237 male and 13 female prisoners sent by the Gestapo from Prague receive Nos 35789-36025 (men) and 7457 – 7469 (women). 84 prisoners and one Russian POW lose their lives in Auschwitz-Birkenau.”

The Head Capo (17401) also reported that work on the chimney flue in the crematorium of the main camp is finished. The work was completed in two days, with 11-hour work shifts of the prisoners (170).
