“The Commandant’s Office of Auschwitz is informed that the fifth transport with 1,038 Jews left Beaune-la-Rolanda in France at 5:20AM for Auschwitz.
At 2:30AM a female prisoner is shot by SS man Peitz “while escaping” (Czech 18).
PLEASE NOTE:
the historical record always notates the names and numbers of men shot “while escaping” the same is not done for women. Is that because women were considered less important or because they were hiding the atrocities being committed to the women?
This article talks about photographs and records from the camp in Beaune-la-Rolande and how in the spring 1,000 (or more? it’s hard to read) were sent to Auschwitz. If they were on this transport, you can see how there is no mention of the children being on it–nor any women.
