“(which includes Blocks 1-10 [Rena #1716 and Danka #2779 were in Block 10])…” he is shown the effect of a whipping and personally approves the flogging of women. He is also present at the roll call, where he consents to the release of a few German female prisoners (they were most likely imprisoned in Ravensbruck, as well, prior to coming to Auschwitz)*. “After the tour, Himmler says the Sipo operations he has ordered must not be stopped for any reason, least of all because of the lack of accommodations… He orders Höss to proceed faster with the construction of the Birkenau camp to kill the Jewish prisoners who are unfit for work… In recognition for his work and performance, Höss is promoted to SS Lt. Colonel” (Czech 199).
Jews from Slovakia arrive – the full number on the transport is not recorded, but 178 women are registered in camp and given Nos. 9160-9337; 327 men are registered and given Nos. 48494-48820. The rest are killed in the gas chambers.
Additional transports come in, as well: After the selections: 32 women on one and 212 women on another (199).
*The release of these German women prisoners doe not take place immediately. One (Luise Maurer) is not released until the end of 1943.
