This transport has 407 men, 79 boys, 445 women and 68 girls. After the selection 290 men and 228 women are admitted to camp; the other 481 deportees are killed in the gas chambers. (Note: that the historical record if just starting to be accurate in the numbers of children being gassed). The women are numbered 16737-16964; the men 58226-58515.
“After moving the female prisoners in Camp B-Ia in Birkenau, the disinfection of the empty Blocks 1-10 in the main camp is begun. Zyklon B gas* is used for this purpose. Before the disinfection is begun, a passage is made in the wal that previously separated the women’s camp from the men’s camp” (Source: Czech 215).
*Hoss orders a distance of 16 yards from the gassed room to avoid hydrogen cyanide poinsoning, and the wearin gof gas masks–this is due to slight poisoning of SS guards.
