75 Years Ago – April 24, 1942 – in Auschwitz Holocaust History

98 prisoners–all artists from Krakow receive the #s 32489-32586. (Keep in mind that men receive higher numbers because Auschwitz had been accepting prisoners since June 14, 1940. The first Polish inmates were mostly arrested trying to escape Poland to rejoin the Polish army forming in France–they are organizers of the underground, etc., and received #s 31-758.)

The prisoner, Stanislaw Lenart #16907, who escaped on April 22, was captured and he is locked in Block 11, Block Smierchi, across from where Rena was kept in Block 10. On May 7 he was sent to the Penal Company.
